"La gare de Montbrun, 39 ° C"

(Montbrun train station, 39 ° C)

Watercolor on paper

30 x 40 cm

2000

We were pretty much at the beginning of our bike tour through southwestern France. A good friend of the family had left his car to the daughter studying in Bordeaux and drove it there personally. Now he was on the way back and cycled a good 1,300 km back to Swabian. We made phone calls on the way and identified a small village on the beautiful river Lot as a possible meeting point: Montbrun should be, at the local campsite "Les Cournoulises". Thomas came from West and we from East. Since we arrived a little earlier, there was still some time to dig out the watercolor block and look for a nice place with a nice motif. It was lunchtime and the sun was relentlessly burning from the sky. But not that I was looking for a shady place, no, it had to be at 39 ° C without shadow and with scorching hot light from above ..... It had to be this small train station, the tracks of which only exist in fragments today.

Now it hangs in Thomas's house in good memory

"Il Mulino"

Pastel on paper

30 x 40 cm

1996

How fondly I remember our vacation on Elba and in Tuscany. With our daughters and good friends. Behind the thick walls of this old mill on Elba, many a bottle of grappa was emptied during and after playing cards .....

The velvety structure of the painting ground gives the picture something "homely", makes it somehow cozy. While the the family and our friends were still sleeping soundly behind the closed shutters on the upper floor, I was already sitting behind the hedge and painting this pastel view. Shortly before the completion, the window have been opened and someone called "Coffee !!!"

"Farmhouse in Burgundy"

"The friend's house of birth"

Oil on canvas

50 x 40 cm

1994

It was in Oberbrüden. In the Bürgerwaldstrasse. Where the local cooper made his must. This old house with its own charm. Three generations under one roof. And it was the friend who lived here. The childhood friend with whom I walked through thick and thin - and the friend with whom I have been closely connected to this day! The house has long since ceased to exist, but the friendship persists.
In this small town, whose thoroughfare still hardly deserves this name and which leads to the Utzenhof, the Heslachhof and the Trailhof. Today part of the Auenwald community, this 1,000-soul nest was once a thriving and, above all, lively village! When I was young, in the 1960s and 1970s, there were the following handicrafts and other businesses:

2 butchers
2 bakers
4 restaurants
2 general stores
1 hairdresser
1 photographer
1 school (with 8 classes, but only 3 rooms)
1 carpenter
1 post
1 dairy
1 forester
1 bank branch
1 auto repair shop with petrol station
1 shoemaker
1 blacksmith
1 village shack
and there was still an open dump at that time.

Today there is nothing left of it. Nothing at all. The church alone is still standing and there is probably also a pastor. It was a long time ago when his name was Weippert and we were slapped by him in confirmation classes if we did not behave appropriately. The problem was not a slap in the face: The problem was that we always remembered that he was left-handed ...
